Coalescence (Vimjam)
A downloadable game for Windows
This is my submission for the VimJam game-jam hosted by Vimlark, and 8 Bits to Infinity.
Focus: Collectables
Theme: There and Back
Coalescence is a game heavily inspired by Digimon, where you go about collecting creatures and combining them to create new ones.
Check out my other, BETTER, Games :)
Controls
Point and Click with the mouse for most interactions.
While hovering over creatures, click and hold the left mouse button to pick them up. Hovering over a UI slot and letting go will place the creature in that slot.
Edit: Upon traveling back to the main scene the creatures you placed in your bag will automatically join your ever expanding group. To combine creatures simply click on the combine menu button, mouse over a creature in the scene, and click and drag the creature into a slot within the combine menu. Every new creature you bring back with you to the main scene, or discover through combination will automatically update the Dex menu with a new entry letting you know which creatures you have and have not seen.
Note: although not fully implemented, you can release creatures back into the wild from the main scene for a small amount of exp. The exp was supposed to act as a currency, however, I did not have enough time to implement enough shop items to justify including it into the demo.
Credit
All code is written by myself, besides the use of some Tween Library code from LeanTween (Asset Store). Some UI and background assets were drawn by me. All "creatures" drawn by me.
Third Party Assets:
Music: Tallbeard Studios (http://www.abstractionmusic.com/)
Song - Abstraction: track 1 (https://tallbeard.itch.io/music-loop-bundle)
"Simple Dessert - Free Tileset" by WRLCK on gamedevmarket.net
"Patreon's Top Down Collection" by ansimuz on itch.io
"Kenny Assets - Sounds" by Kenny
"Simple Pixel UI" by Jakub Varga on Unity Assetstore
Notes
For whatever reason, I could not get a web build working. I could compile within unity to "build and run", but running the build after the fact just doesn't work on any browser. Not sure if its an issue associated with my computer alone, but I did not want to risk it.
Source Code
Although my code is a bit of a mess, here is a link to my project files for those who are interested.

awesome:) loved the chill feeling
this game is awesome, is there any update?
thanks <3
Hi! I appreciate your interest in my Vimjam entry. In the months since participating in the game jam I have made changes here and there to the project, but have not made significant progress due to being a fulltime student finishing my Bachelor’s this year in Computer Science. I would love to come back to this project soon and make some much needed additions. You don’t have any obligation to follow any of my other channels where I showcase my work but feel free to keep an eye on my GitHub where I am actively developing multiple side projects for school. Some of which include games.

If I make an update to this project you will likely see it there, and I will even make an effort to reply again to this comment. Once again, appreciate your interest. I never thought 8 months after taking part in this jam that there would still be people downloading and trying this game. It makes me happy, even if some end up not liking it.
Also, one minor update I did happened to be another entry for another jam where I prototyped a battle system for the game which you can find on my itch.io page. It was my submission to the Ludum Dare 47 game jam.
Cute game!
